Surrogate Breeding

Quality Surrogate Breeding Program

At Five Strand Ranch, we specialize in surrogate breeding.

Our breeding program is built around thoughtful planning, proven practices, and a commitment to producing healthy, well-balanced horses. Every step of the process is handled with care, precision, and a focus on long-term success.

How the Program Works

You Provide the Embryo
Clients are responsible for all donor-related services, including semen, insemination, flushing, and associated veterinary work. A viable embryo (fresh, cooled, or vitrified) is then delivered for transfer.

We Provide the Recipient Mare & Full Care
We supply a healthy recipient mare and manage the entire process from embryo transfer through pregnancy, foaling, and weaning.

The Result
The embryo and resulting foal are fully yours. Our recipient mare remains under our care and management throughout the process.

Services Included in Our Program

  • Selection and reproductive preparation of a healthy Ranch-owned recipient mare
  • Embryo transfer coordination and procedure
  • Full gestational care with regular ultrasound monitoring
  • Routine health checks, nutrition tailored to pregnancy stages, and biosecurity protocols
  • Professional foaling support and assistance
  • Post-birth boarding and care for the recipient mare and foal through weaning

Our surrogate breeding program is designed to provide a safe, controlled environment for both mares and foals. Each stage is handled with consistency and attention to detail to support a healthy pregnancy and successful outcome.

Program Timeline

  • Gestation: Approximately 340 days (about 11 months) from successful transfer
  • Post-Foaling Care: Through weaning at approximately 5–6 months
  • Total Program Duration: Around 16–17 months from successful embryo transfer to foal weaning

Live Foal Guarantee: If no live foal (standing and nursing) results after Day 65 of gestation, we will provide one additional embryo transfer cycle into a replacement recipient mare at no extra transfer fee (subject to availability). You remain responsible for boarding and veterinary costs.
